“If you tell the truth, you don’t have to remember anything.”

What is considered a lie?

Google Says: A lie is an assertion that is believed to be false, typically used with the purpose of deceiving someone. The practice of communicating lies is called lying. A person who communicates a lie may be termed a liar.

Types of Lies

  • Error—a lie by mistake. …
  • Omission – leaving out relevant information. …
  • Restructuring—distorting the context. …
  • Denial—refusing to acknowledge a truth. …
  • Minimization—reducing the effects of a mistake, a fault, or a judgment call.
  • Exaggeration—representing as greater, better, more experienced, more successful.

What is Karma? Is there any Karma generated when one lies? Is there any link?

Let’s understand Karma briefly.

Karma is action – any action and every action. One is wholly and solely responsible for all actions one undertakes or performs – good and bad.

And just like the law of gravity never misses attracting anything and everything towards itself so does the Law of Karma. It never misses any action.

Lying generates Karma of a similar nature. You get entitled to a web of lies because of your actions.

Have you ever wondered what could be any repercussions to lying?

Why should we avoid lying to others?

Lying distorts the Mental Perception, the Inner Perception of other people. The karmic fruit of this is that one’s mental perception will be distorted. Why? Because one has mentally blinded and distorted the perception of others.

That means when we sow this kind of seed, we will harvest the same in return! A return of the same value, maybe with a multiplied proportion too!

Every time a person distorts the inner perception of someone else, his inner perception will be distorted. This is the Law.

Lying affects self and others.

Ask yourself these questions to overcome the habit of lying:
  1. Why do you lie? Is it once sometimes or habitual/ everyday? What is the deeper reason for you to lie? Are you lying to gain sympathy/ attention or to hide something
  2. Does your lie benefit all, in a good way? Lying for the greater good?
  3. Do you feel at peace after you lie or do you feel guilty? If its the latter, stop doing it immediately!
  4. If you lie perennially, try to remember or make a note of the pattern that triggers you to lie.
  5. Which of the lies listed above in this blog do you very frequently use?
